2022 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon canceled by organizers

The feeds came as a complete surprise to all viewers, fans, and most importantly the participants. One of the most anticipated tournaments of the years in America was not destined to materialize in the upcoming 2022 season.

Preconditions for cancellation started as early as 2021

After the successful running completion of the 2021 season, the organizers were quite pleased with the marathon. But just a few weeks after the marathon of the races, the organizers reported resonant statements.

The track, which has been used for the purpose of organizing for many years, is closed for a significant restoration. This was followed by the development of detailed features of the overhaul, as well as the result of a different running route. This is where the main problems arose.

In August, news appeared in the media that the competition would not take place. Spectators and participants were shocked. The organizers later stated that they had made every effort to complete the work begun by the new season.

Possible alternative route

News about a possible alternative route for 2022 was published in the media and the Internet. The organizers considered it most important to take into account and preserve the main landscapes of the track. Participants should be able to enjoy the beauty of Milwaukee.

The last route started near Grafton High School and ended near Henry Maier Festival Park, passing along the waterfront. The further route was supposed to run parallel to the old one, making some adjustments.

The alternative route starts at Grafton and continues through Cedarburg. Before entering the coastline, the highway runs along Lakefield Rd and Pioneer Rd. At mile 11, the route enters the waterfront at Concordia University Wisconsin.

The next track almost repeats the previous running road – Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale, Whitefish Bay, and Shorewood. From the embankment, the road goes to Brady Street and then returns to the traditional finish line – Historic Third Ward.

Huge disappointment for potential Marathon participants

Prior to the cancellation of the marathon, the city had to accept more than three and a half thousand runners and athletes from different countries and continents. The news of the cancellation was the biggest disappointment for them.

Particularly affected were those who were going to make their career debut in 2022, as well as training hard for a whole year. But the decision is not retroactive.
